It so happened that last week my friends and I decided that we aren’t really meeting up as regularly we want because of skewered work schedules. When we do meet up, the partying tends to get ummm…too wild 😀 While that. i.e. the partying will continue to be so, my friend Kabir’s lovely wife laughed and said a bit wistfully that we really need to take care of ourselves , simultaneously…’We are not getting younger”, she quipped.
All of us flinched.
For she spoke the truth. Last year, all of us had stress related health issues related to our lifestyles. And when 2015 began, I had kinda promised myself that this is one area where I need to focus and be disciplined.
But I would do it in style and have fun at the same time. I shall not agonize about working out or chase un-real diet plans. Somewhat like what Maya Angelou says “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style”.
What can be better than dance? A health magazine says “Whenever the super-stressed residents on Grey’s Anatomy bust out in an impromptu dance party, it must be because they know how healing it is—they are doctors, after all “.Truth is, shaking your booty is remarkably healthy, and not just in a fitness-and-weight-loss kind of way but it actually sends rays of happiness to your soul.The effect is magnified if you are dancing with the people you love to chill out with 😀 . So Rumi says “Dance, when you’re broken open. Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you’re perfectly free.”
I floated the idea that we can meet up more regularly and have fun while we get fit too.Zumba! I used to zumba in 2014 and its really fabulous. Everyone cheered! Music and dance are our bonding elements anyway 🙂
It goes to the credit of Kabir that within a week he got a room in his farmhouse converted into a dance -studio and found the perfect zumba instructor to hold weekend classes for the gang 🙂 This works better for us. Having your own place and group. The comfort level and camaraderie adds to the fun element.Amidst much laughter and fun, we started zumba-ing last evening in my friend’s house 🙂
